COOL IS A DISEASE
Side effects of trying to be cool may include, but are not limited to: lack of enthusiasm, joy and curiosity, boredom and unexpressed creativity. Growing up gay, I felt the need to make it all look good because if it looked good, no one could tell me I wasn’t good. “Be so good they can’t tell you otherwise” is a motto I lived by until one day I realized my motto had more to do with the outside world’s opinion than my own. Whether it’s our desire to be cool, sexy, smart, verified, fashionable or spiritual, our need to be something we’ve seen modeled in our culture is common. Our willingness to check in with our ideas about who we are is uncommon. As I shed previous incarnations and integrate my past with my present self, I find new motivation and build the life of MY dreams. Shoot me a message and tell me about the least cool habit you have for self care!
INSTAGRAM vs REALITY: Pressure to be Perfect
Make America Great Again is catchy for some because it spiritually bypasses the journey of looking at how we got here and how we want to proceed forward. It’s a cheap shortcut and a glossing over the wounds of our past. This Covid-19 grief feels similar to how I felt post-election, 2016. It brings up a lack of control, a fear for the future and a loss for words. For those of us experiencing this quarantine as uncomfortable, now is the time to get still and get honest with ourselves about how we got here— and I’m not referring to the virus. How did we get to this junction in our lives? Are we content with what we’ve created and how we’ve been spending our valuable time? Would we feel comfortable going back to life as we knew it or are there changes we’re being called to make? This lesson is one I don’t plan to miss... Comment below and let me know what’s coming up for you and what you’re doing to self-care.

Dreams do come true at VINTAGE @ COTERIE. Our favorite "accidental icon" was gracious enough to film this conversation with Stylist William Graper for us. She also stuck around the show to sign every last copy of her new book, "Iris Apfel: Accidental Icon".
